BUILT TO OUTLAST EVERYTHING

BlueCube™ C1 Cold Plunge Tub

WHY MERIDIAN LOVES

BlueCube

BlueCube is not a wellness brand that added a cold plunge to its lineup. It's a cold plunge company — full stop.

Every engineering decision, every material choice, every design refinement they have made exists for one purpose: to build the best cold plunge on the market and stand behind it completely.

That singular focus is exactly why we chose them.

When we evaluated cold plunge companies for our MERIDIAN SystemS, we applied the same standard we hold for every component: does this company specialize in this, or is this simply a product in a broader catalog? BlueCube passed that test immediately — and then kept passing every one that followed.

Built by hand in Redmond, Oregon, BlueCube has never been a wellness brand with a cold plunge in its lineup. They are a cold plunge company — and that singular focus shows in everything they make. Their construction standard, their engineering decisions, and their warranty coverage all reflect a manufacturer that builds with complete conviction and stands behind what it makes without exception.

Every unit is engineered to a commercial standard from the ground up — not adapted for commercial use after the fact — making the BlueCube one of the only cold plunges on the market that performs identically whether it is installed in a private residence or a professional wellness facility.

Three things set BlueCube apart from everything else in this category. First, their 14-gauge 316 marine-grade stainless steel construction — built 30% thicker than the industry standard and finished with a Line-X® coated frame rated for permanent indoor and outdoor exposure in any climate. Second, their proprietary RiverMode™ flow system — active, full-body water circulation at three intensity levels that transforms cold exposure from passive temperature contact into a genuine physiological event.

Third, their 3-year bumper-to-bumper residential warranty covering components, plumbing, electrical, labor, and shipping — with an optional lifetime extension — reflecting a level of manufacturer confidence that no competitor in this category has come close to matching.

Definitive cold therapy engineered without compromise in every dimension that matters

Construction & Materials:

Handcrafted in Redmond, Oregon, the C3 features commercial-grade construction

The C1 tub interior is constructed from 304-grade stainless steel at 14-gauge thickness. The 304 designation refers to an austenitic chromium-nickel alloy that is the most widely used grade of stainless steel in the world, selected for its excellent corrosion resistance in water-contact applications, its non-reactive surface that will not leach contaminants into the water, and its ability to maintain a clean, sanitary, and visually refined finish over years of continuous use.

The 14-gauge wall thickness is a critical specification — gauge refers to the thickness of the steel sheet, and 14-gauge is substantially thicker than the 16- or 18-gauge steel used in lower-tier consumer plunge tubs, which means the C1 tub walls resist flexing, denting, and the microscopic stress fractures caused by daily thermal cycling as the tub moves between cold water temperatures and ambient air conditions.

At this gauge and material grade, the interior surface performs the same function as surgical-grade equipment — it is non-porous, bacteria-resistant, and holds up under sustained chemical and thermal stress without degrading. The interior dimensions measure 60" L × 24" W × 22" H, providing full neck-depth immersion for users up to approximately 6'5". A 54-inch Mini configuration is also available for clients who need a reduced footprint.

The C1 frame is built on a marine-grade plywood core that forms the structural backbone of the entire unit. Marine-grade plywood is a distinct material category from standard construction or cabinet plywood — it is manufactured with fully waterproof phenolic adhesives between every laminate layer, has a higher veneer grade with minimal voids or gaps in the wood, and is engineered to hold dimensional stability and structural integrity in continuously wet, high-humidity, and temperature-variable environments.

This is not a product choice made for cost efficiency — marine-grade plywood is used because it is one of the most reliably moisture-stable structural substrates available without moving into metal framing, and it allows the frame to be shaped, fitted, and finished in ways that metal cannot.

The entire exterior of the marine-grade plywood frame is then encased in Line-X® polyurea coating at 16-mil thickness. Line-X® is a spray-applied polyurea elastomer that was originally developed for military vehicle armor and industrial applications, and is the exact same material applied to commercial truck bed liners, tactical equipment, and infrastructure protection. At 16 mil, it forms a seamless, fully bonded shell over the frame that is impact-resistant, scratch-resistant, UV-stable, fully waterproof, and thermally insulative. It cannot peel, crack, chip, or delaminate the way painted or powder-coated finishes can.

The coating also meaningfully reduces thermal transfer between the water inside and the ambient environment outside, which reduces the workload on the chiller system and improves energy efficiency. The C1 frame exterior is available in four standard Line-X® colors — white, black, grey, and beige — or any custom Sherwin-Williams color at an additional lead time.

The complete assembled unit weighs 650 lbs empty and measures 92.5" L × 37.5" W × 29" H in its exterior frame dimensions. At 29.5" in height, BlueCube specifically notes that all C-Series models can be tilted onto their side to pass through standard doorways and narrow hallways, making indoor placement accessible even in spaces with restricted entry points. Every BlueCube arrives fully assembled from the factory — there is no on-site assembly required whatsoever.

Insulation in the C1 operates across three distinct systems working together. The first is the marine-grade plywood frame itself, which is a natural thermal buffer — wood is a poor conductor of heat and inherently resists thermal transfer in ways that metal framing does not. The second and most significant layer is the Line-X® 16-mil polyurea exterior coating, which adds a continuous, seamless thermal barrier around the entire exterior of the unit, reducing heat absorption from ambient air and solar radiation.

The third layer is the insulated spa cover with child locks that is included standard with every C1. The cover sits flush over the tub opening, trapping cold air directly above the water surface and dramatically reducing evaporative heat gain — which is one of the primary ways cold plunge systems lose temperature when not in use. Together, these three systems mean the chiller is working against a well-insulated envelope rather than fighting constant heat infiltration, which results in lower energy consumption and more stable temperature maintenance over a 24/7 run cycle.

The C1 uses industrial-grade Schedule 40 PVC plumbing in a pool and spa-grade specification. Schedule 40 PVC is a pressure-rated pipe designation — it is the standard used in permanent pool, spa, and commercial water system installations because it is designed to withstand continuous high-flow water pressure, large temperature differentials, and chemical exposure without deformation, cracking, or leaching.

The plumbing is sized at 1"–1.5" diameter to support adequate flow rates through the filtration and circulation system. Every pipe in the system is hand-insulated by BlueCube's craftsmen to minimize thermal loss as water moves between the tub, chiller, filter, and pump — which matters because even a few degrees of warming during circulation would add load back onto the chiller and compromise temperature consistency.

BlueCube specifically highlights their plumbing as a point of differentiation because most consumer-grade cold plunge products use lightweight, thin-wall PVC or flexible hose connections that are prone to pressure fatigue, cracking under thermal stress, and developing slow leaks at connection points. The Schedule 40 specification and accessible mechanical layout mean that any licensed plumber or pool and spa technician can service, repair, or replace any component without requiring specialized training, proprietary tools, or factory technician dispatch.

Replacement parts are readily available through standard supply channels, which eliminates the risk of extended downtime caused by unavailable components.

The C1 with the 1 HP motor option meets full commercial-capable standards. It is specifically rated to support up to 100 plunges per day without downtime, maintaining water temperature within 4°F of the set point across back-to-back sessions. At a typical session length of 2–4 minutes, this translates to 11–15 plunges per hour, with only minutes between each use for water to circulate and return to set temperature — not the 30–45 minute recovery periods required by underpowered consumer systems.

The C1 also accepts the full Commercial Upgrade Package, which adds AOP (Advanced Oxidation Process — UV plus ozone) or automated chlorine drip sanitation, an integrated commercial skimmer, alternative non-metal tub materials (hemp carbon, carbon fiber, or gel-coated fiberglass) for environments where metal tubs are prohibited by health codes, and complete documentation and build sheets for Department of Health approval.

This makes the C1 fully suitable for gyms, hotel spas, corporate wellness facilities, medical recovery clinics, and any regulated commercial environment that requires documented compliance.

Chiller & Temperature

Japanese magnetic-drive pump — near-silent operation

The C1 is equipped with a Balboa-brand commercial chiller, selected by BlueCube specifically for three reasons: proven industry reliability, strong manufacturer warranty and service network support, and seamless integration with the rest of the C1's pump, flow, and filtration systems.

Balboa is the recognized industry standard in professional spa and hot tub manufacturing worldwide, with decades of track record in commercial and high-end residential applications. The chiller is rated at 1 HP, which provides the cooling capacity and sustained output required to maintain temperature under consecutive heavy use. It integrates directly with the Balboa SpaTouch 4+ control system, creating a unified electronic ecosystem rather than a patchwork of separately sourced components.

The chiller is designed for continuous 24/7 operation, cooling water actively when the temperature rises above the set point and maintaining steady-state hold when the set point is reached. This design philosophy — always on, always ready — is what distinguishes a commercial-capable system from consumer equipment that cycles off between uses.

37°F–70°F

The C1 covers the full clinical cold plunge range from the most aggressive cold therapy protocol at 37°F — which is the coldest most practitioners recommend for immersion therapy — up to 70°F for lighter contrast work, cool recovery soaks, or acclimation protocols for clients new to cold immersion.

The C1 does not extend into true heated water territory, making it a cold and cool range unit. Clients who want full contrast therapy capability (cold plunge and hot soak in the same unit) should consider the C2, which extends to 104°F.

Temperature is controlled via the Balboa SpaTouch 4+ controller, which allows precise degree-by-degree set point adjustment. The system actively cools water at a rate of 11–13°F per hour from ambient temperature until the set point is reached, at which point it transitions to maintenance mode and holds the set temperature continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The unit draws approximately 13 amps during active cooling and significantly less once maintenance mode is engaged, making its ongoing energy consumption efficient relative to its cooling output. The Balboa controller also connects to the BlueCube app (iOS and Android) for remote temperature monitoring and adjustment.

The C1 is not a heated plunge system. Its operating ceiling of 70°F allows for a cool or mild soak but does not provide true warm water or hot water therapy.

For clients whose wellness protocol includes contrast therapy — alternating between cold immersion and hot soaking — the C2 is the appropriate unit, as it extends to 104°F and supports full contrast cycles in a single system.

The C1 operates with a single-speedIwaki magnetic-drive pump— a technology selected specifically for its near-silent operation profile. Iwaki magnetically coupled centrifugal pumps use a magnetic coupling between the motor and the pump impeller rather than a traditional mechanical shaft seal.

The absence of shaft seals eliminates the primary source of pump vibration, noise, wear, and failure in conventional pump designs. The result is a pump that runs smoothly, quietly, and continuously without the mechanical hum, vibration transfer, or seal degradation that conventional pumps develop over time. BlueCube describes all C-Series models as "quiet operation," and the Iwaki technology is the engineering foundation behind that.

The C1 is appropriate for indoor wellness rooms, basement gyms, master suite adjacent spaces, and any environment where mechanical noise is a concern.

Water Flow System

Continuous 24/7 RiverMode™ water movement at 18 GPM

The C1 maintainscontinuous, always-on single-speed water circulation through its Iwaki pump. Water is perpetually in motion — through the tub, through the filter, through the ozone sanitation system, and back.

This continuous circulation serves three simultaneous functions: it prevents temperature stratification (warm pockets forming near the body), it keeps the filtration system actively processing water at all times, and it maintains the ozone sanitation cycle in constant operation so that the water is always being treated regardless of whether the tub is in active use.

The system does not cycle on and off between sessions. When the cover is on and no one is in the tub, the pump and chiller continue running, maintaining set temperature and water quality so the unit is always ready without a warm-up period.

The C1 does not include River Mode or RiverMode™ Plus. It operates on a single-speed constant circulation pump that keeps water continuously moving throughout the tub. This continuous movement does disrupt some thermal buildup around the body and contributes to consistent filtration and sanitation cycling, but it does not replicate the directed, multi-speed, river-like current produced by the C2 or C3's River Mode system.

Clients who specifically want the full thermal barrier disruption experience — where directional, high-flow water continuously strips the insulating warm layer from the skin surface — should consider upgrading to the C2 or C3. The C1 is best understood as a high-quality, clean, consistent cold plunge experience without the advanced flow dynamics that River Mode delivers.

Filtration & Sanitation

20-micron commercial-grade filtration running continuously 24/7

The C1 uses a 35 sq ft pool-grade Pentair filter cartridge rated at 20 microns. To contextualize what 20 microns means in practical terms — a human hair is approximately 70 microns in diameter, and most bacteria range from 1 to 10 microns. A 20-micron filter captures fine particulate matter including skin cells, oils, hair, debris, and larger microorganisms, keeping the water visually clear and reducing the biological load that the ozone sanitation system must neutralize.

The 35 sq ft filter surface area is a commercial-grade specification — a larger filter surface means more water can be processed per cycle with less pressure drop, which allows the pump to operate efficiently and extends the time between necessary filter replacements. The filter housing is designed for easy access with a large compartment that does not require tools to open, making cartridge swaps a straightforward maintenance task.

Standardozone (O₃) automatic sanitation is included on every C1. Ozone is a triatomic oxygen molecule that functions as one of the most powerful oxidizing agents available for water treatment — it eliminates bacteria, viruses, and organic contaminants in the water at a rate more than 3,000 times faster than chlorine, and it is particularly effective in cold water, where chlorine-based systems lose significant efficacy.

Because ozone breaks down into ordinary oxygen after it has done its work, it leaves no chemical residue, no smell, and no ongoing chemical balance to manage. The system generates and injects ozone continuously as part of the circulation cycle, meaning sanitation is happening automatically in the background at all times. The C1 is also rated for chlorine and bromine supplementation at a maximum of 3 PPM for clients who prefer or require a chemical sanitation layer in addition to ozone, particularly in shared or commercial use contexts. The Commercial Upgrade Package adds AOP (ozone combined with UV light for enhanced pathogen neutralization) and an automated chlorine drip system with pH management for fully hands-off commercial sanitation.

Under normal residential operation with a single or household user, the C1 requiresno chemical additions whatsoever. The ozone system handles all sanitation automatically and continuously. If the tub is used commercially or by multiple users on the same day, a low-dose chlorine or bromine supplementation at 3 PPM may be added as an additional layer of protection.

No weekly shocking, pH balancing, algaecide treatment, or chemical maintenance routine is required under standard use conditions. This is a meaningful practical distinction from traditional hot tubs and pools, which require constant chemical management to remain safe.

Filter cartridges should be replaced every 3–6 months, or approximately every 10–12 water changes, depending on use frequency and user load. The recommended water drain and refill interval for residential use is every 2–4 weeks. At each water change, the interior of the tub should be wiped down before refilling.

The startup procedure after a water change is straightforward: check unions for tightness, fill the tub, prime the filter, and the system is operational. A maintenance kit is included with every C1. The system does not require algae scrubbing, tile cleaning, chemical testing kits, or any of the complex maintenance routines associated with traditional pools or hot tubs.

BlueCube's large, accessible mechanical compartment means that any licensed plumber or pool and spa technician can service the unit without specialized training. Replacement parts can be ordered directly and are designed for easy installation.

The C1 — Where EXCELLENCE Begins

SMART Control

The Smartest Sauna on the Market

The C1 is compatible with theBalboa BWA™ ControlMySpa app, available on both iOS and Android. The app connects to the Balboa SpaTouch 4+ controller via the home Wi-Fi network and provides remote control of temperature set points, pump speed, and system scheduling.

In practical terms, this means a client can pre-chill the tub from bed before waking up, check the current water temperature from their phone before walking to the wellness room, or adjust the set point remotely from anywhere with an internet connection. The app also provides system status monitoring so the client is aware of the unit's operating state at all times without having to physically check the tub.

BlueCube provides a dedicated U.S.-based live video support service available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM PST. This is not a chatbot or automated help system — it is direct, live video access to BlueCube's support team, who have more than 20 years of cold therapy expertise and can walk clients through troubleshooting, maintenance procedures, part identification, and setup questions in real time.

Replacement parts can be ordered directly through BlueCube and are designed to arrive ready to install. On-site technical support is also available for both residential and commercial clients when remote support is not sufficient. BlueCube's philosophy that their systems are designed to be serviceable — not disposable — is reflected in the accessibility and availability of their support infrastructure.

Placement & Environment

Fully weatherproof and impact-resistant

The C1 is engineered for both indoor and outdoor placement with zero modification required. The Line-X® coating is fully UV-stable, so direct sunlight will not cause fading, chalking, or degradation of the exterior finish over time. The marine-grade plywood frame is moisture-sealed and will not rot, swell, or delaminate in rain, snow, or high-humidity environments. The stainless steel tub interior will not rust or corrode under normal water chemistry conditions.

The insulated spa cover protects the water surface and mechanical components from debris, leaves, rain, and snow ingress when the unit is not in use. The unit is equally appropriate for an outdoor deck or patio, a backyard installation, an indoor dedicated wellness room, a basement gym, a garage conversion, or an integrated architectural wellness space.

The C1 requires a level surface capable of supporting a minimum of 650 lbs empty — when filled with water, the total weight will increase substantially and should be factored into structural assessments for elevated decks or upper-level interior floors. A dedicated 120V, 20A circuit with a standard outlet is required — the dedicated circuit requirement exists not because the unit constantly draws 20A, but because the initial startup amp surge can trip a shared circuit breaker.

For outdoor installations, the outlet must be GFCI-protected per NEC electrical code. The unit can also be hardwired (pigtailed) for permanent indoor installations. A minimum clearance of 18 inches on the component access and filter access sides is recommended to allow comfortable routine maintenance access. The unit arrives fully assembled — no contractor, no electrician (beyond the dedicated circuit), no plumber, and no on-site assembly crew is required. Simply check unions, fill the tub, prime the filter, and plug in.

The C1 is rated to operate in ambient outdoor temperatures as low as –5°F. The Line-X® shell, marine-grade plywood frame, hand-insulated plumbing, and insulated cover collectively protect the internal components and water system from freezing damage in cold climates. No winterization, seasonal drainage, or shutdown is required for outdoor installations in cold weather regions.

The chiller continues to maintain set temperature efficiently even in freezing ambient conditions, and the continuous circulation system prevents water from stagnating and freezing in the plumbing lines during operation.
